TD Ameritrade doesn’t offer fractional share purchases, but that won’t matter for much longer, since the broker has now been officially acquired by Charles Schwab.
We offer DRIP, free of charge, on most exchange-listed and NASDAQ stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, and ADRs. The stock and ETF dividend reinvestment plan (DRIP) allows you to reinvest your cash dividends by purchasing additional shares or fractional shares.

Transfer of Fractional Shares.
The Automated Customer Account Transfer System (ACATS) does not support Fractional Shares. If you want to transfer your account or specific Fractional Share positions to another broker, you may be required to sell the Fractional Share position(s) and transfer the cash proceeds.
You cannot directly buy a fractional share of stock (for example stock slice of Berkshire Hathaway or Google) on J.P. Morgan Chase or any of its traditional competitors such as TD Ameritrade or Etrade. However, you can invest in partial shares of stocks by using a $0-commission brokerage firm called Webull.
Fractional shares pay proportionate dividends, assuming the stock in question pays dividends at all. This means that if you own 50% of a share, you get 50% of the dividends that a full share pays.
What if you don’t have enough to buy an entire share of Tesla? You may be able to purchase a fractional share — essentially a piece of a share. Several brokers now offer fractional shares of individual stocks.

Is it good to reinvest dividends?
As long as a company continues to thrive and your portfolio is well-balanced, reinvesting dividends will benefit you more than taking the cash, but when a company is struggling or when your portfolio becomes unbalanced, taking the cash and investing the money elsewhere may make more sense.
Can you trade with unsettled cash?
Can you buy other securities with unsettled funds? While your funds remain unsettled until the completion of the settlement period, you can use the proceeds from a sale immediately to make another purchase in a cash account, as long as the proceeds do not result from a day trade.

TD Ameritrade ACH Transfer Time

How long after selling stock can you withdraw TD Ameritrade?
Funds cannot be withdrawn or used to purchase non-marginable securities, initial public offering (IPO) stocks, or options until four business days after deposit posting. All electronic deposits are subject to review and may be restricted for 60 days.
Downsides of Fractional Shares. Limited selection of stocks: Not every stock is available for fractional investing. You might not be able to choose from as many companies as you could if you bought whole shares. Liquidity: You might not have immediate asset liquidity with your fractional shares.
If you initiate a full asset transfer out of Robinhood, your fractional shares will be sold and you’ll receive the resulting cash back. If you initiate a partial asset transfer, any fractional shares you own will remain in your Robinhood Securities account as fractional shares.
Conclusion. Fractional shares are difficult to sell since the demand for them is usually low. Additionally, you need to sell your fractional shares within your investment brokerage, so the buyers’ market is not large, to begin with. You also need to find a seller who wants the share increment that you are selling.
